From Seed to Ware, You Should be There!

The biennial Seed Industry Event (SIE14) will be held on 25 November 2014 at the Crieff Hydro, one of Scotland’s premier venues. SIE14 is a fast-moving, one-day strategic potato industry conference, hosted by Potato Council in a beautiful and easily accessible location.

This year’s theme is ‘from seed to ware’ and will look at key issues from seed certification and emerging overseas markets through to potatoes for processing and retail. The programme has been designed to appeal to industry right through the supply chain – not just for the seed sector – and offers talks, discussions and workshops from leaders and experts from science, technology and business.

Industry can currently benefit from ‘Early Bird’ booking discounts until 31 August and get substantial savings, with flexible delegate packages to suit everyone – from day passes to full conference, dinner and accommodation deals – all at very competitive rates.

With a fascinating, wide-ranging programme, delegates will hear from experts from GB and overseas. Dr Hassan Were from Kenya’s Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology will give his insight into the emerging Kenyan potato market opportunities. Henk van der Haar from The Netherland’s plant health authority, NAK will give a European perspective about the work being done to align seed certification across Europe.

Taking us along the supply chain, business leaders from retailers William Hill Food Group and from the Potato Processors Association will be talking on developing the right products for retail and the connectivity between seed breeding and variety development for the processing sector.

Reflecting industry feedback, expert-led workshops will examine key plant health topics, such as Blackleg, PCN and responsible land-use.

A new approach this year, the first ‘case study’ session sees an experienced seed grower and their customer giving us some rare insight into their own business and experiences in the supply, growing and purchase of seed.

Prepare to get engrossed in the event’s first-ever interactive pests and diseases workshop, which offers a chance to identify different pests and diseases close-up, with expert guidance from Fera.

2014 sees the 50-year celebration of GB’s leading crop storage facility, Sutton Bridge Crop Storage Research. Their storage session will showcase advances in storage technology in recent decades and examine where technology needs to go to protect the potato crop and improve store efficiencies.

Important networking time is built into the schedule, and the fast-paced day is followed by the always-popular Industry Dinner and Awards, allowing delegates and guests to relax and catch up over drinks, great food and entertainment during the evening.

The Seed Industry Event is one of our industry’s premier gatherings offering strategy, expertise and insight into the latest science and technology that will shape the future of our industry – a seed event which is about much more than seed.
