John Deere R Series Tractors on Show at the Highland

The new R Series tractors and the new F440R fixed chamber round baler for 2014 made their debut on the John Deere stand at the Royal Highland Show.

The 150hp 6150R tractor features the innovative DirectDrive transmission, which was judged winner of the tractor category in the new International Machinery Manufacturers Awards (IMMA) at Cereals 2014 earlier in the month.

DirectDrive is designed to deliver maximum productivity and fuel efficiency for tasks that need continuous power. The IMMA judges commented: “It’s not often that a new transmission comes along, but this one is clearly innovative. The potential for greater efficiency – and lower fuel use – is great.”

The 7290R tractor has a 9-litre diesel only engine with dual turbocharger developing 290hp. For transport and PTO applications, the engine’s intelligent power management (IPM) system provides an extra 22hp. The 7R Series tractors will be available later in the year with the option of a newly designed e23 fully automatic transmission offering 23 equally spaced power shiftable forward and 11 reverse speeds.

The F440R fixed chamber round baler is suitable for large livestock farms and contractors who produce more than 3000 bales per season and focus on silage production. This is a premium specification baler with long-life components, and has been specially designed to operate well in wet silage conditions. There is a choice of 2 or 2.2m pick-ups feeding a high capacity inline MaxiCut HC rotor with 13 or 25 knives, and cab monitoring and control systems include the new Implement Display 1100.
