Bomford Launch New Pro Drill Head at LAMMA

The new Pro Drill Head attachment, designed to provide Bomford mower owners with alternative uses for their machines outside of the hedge cutting season.

To enable operators of Bomford arm mowers to achieve greater versatility and productivity from their mowers outside of the main hedge cutting season, BOMFORD offer a range of different attachments, such as a weed brush and ditch cleaner. The latest addition to this range of attachments is the Pro Drill Head, that can be used to power either a range of post hole borers or a tree stump planer.

The Pro Drill Head incorporates a heavy duty hydraulic motor that can be used at oil flow rates ranging from just 60 litres/minute up to 135 litres/minute. This ensures that the Pro Drill Head is suitable for use with a wide range of BOMFORD arm mowers from the 4.7m reach RAVEN up to the top-of-the-range EAGLE and HERON. Speeds range from 36rpm up to 81rpm and a torque range of 2133Nm up to a maximum of 6931rpm ensures that there is plenty of power for tough operating conditions.

Post Hole Augers
A range of six augers are available for use with the Pro Drill Head, ranging in diameter from 150mm up to 450mm. Where a longer reach is required 1.0m, 1.5m and 2.0m long extensions are also available. Made from high grade steel, each auger is fitted with shallow pitch flights for optimum cutting efficiency and to ensure that the spoil on the flights stays on the flights and is cleanly removed from the hole when lifting the auger.

The auger teeth are attached using a unique quick locking system which not only ensures that teeth can be quickly and easily replaced, but also that teeth are not lost when the auger is reversed.

Compared to conventional linkage mounted augers, the ability to use an arm mower, such as the Heron with its 9.3m maximum reach, as a post hole borer ensures greater productivity and accuracy. The reach and power of the arm mower also makes this ideal for use on difficult to access sites and that there is plenty of hydraulic power available when working in hard ground conditions.

Stump Planer
As an alternative to the auger bit, the Pro Drill Head can also be used to power a 350mm-wide Stump Planer.

The Stump Planer can be used to remove stumps of any size and works on the same principle as a wide drill bit. A screw pilot point pulls the planer into the stump allowing the planer blades to maintain an even, clean cut. The high torque of the Pro Drill Head ensures that high work rates can be achieved even when removing the hardest of stumps. The fact that the wood is shaved off makes this safe to use near buildings or confined spaces, but also means that cleaning up once the stump has been removed is quick and easy, unlike a conventional stump grinder where chips can be spread over a wide area.
