Tough Twose Rollers are the Best In The Business

Facing the challenge of working heavy, stony soil, Dundalk farmer John Lambe needed a roller that could withstand some harsh abuse as well as delivering even consolidation across the entire length of the machine.

Despite testing out a series of different makes, the results remained disappointingly similar with downtime caused by machines suffering a succession of broken rings.

Only one machine could stand up to the challenging conditions, a Twose three-gang roller that not only proved tough and durable but also delivered a fine performance over the ground.

John said: “We tried out a number of different machines but weren’t happy with the build quality. It was very hard to keep the rings on them and they were always getting damaged – yet we never had any issues at all with the Twose machine.”

John chose a 6.4m machine from Twose’s FR3 Premium range equipped with 22-inch Cambridge Breakers. He picked a machine with spring-mounted levelling boards to help shatter clods and break down plough ridges.

He uses it to prepare the ground for planting winter wheat, winter barley, spring oats, and oil seed rape on his 1,600 holding in County Louth.

John said: “It’s a very good heavy roller and the rings are particularly impressive because they are so durable and effective. Because it’s so tough, it’s a low maintenance machine and we’ve never once had to replace a ring.

“The roller is also the perfect weight for what we need it for and does a super job preparing the ground for crops – it easily outperformed the other machines we tested.”

Twose’s FR3-Premium range includes a series of performance-enhancing features including:

  • A choice of 6.4m (21’), 7.3m (24’) and 8.2m (27’) working widths

  • Active pressure system which spreads weight evenly across the rolls

  • Pivoting wing sections for effective contour-following

  • A choice of four different ring profiles

  • And triple-sealed bearings for enhanced durability
