Birthday in Bruges for NFU Stalwart

Isobel Brown from the NFU Mutual office in Lanark has been away celebrating an important birthday in the beautiful Belgian City of Bruges thanks to her daughter Jennifer.

On winning a 50th anniversary competition organised by wellie boot manufacturers Bekina of Belgium Jennifer passed the prize, a luxury weekend for two, to her Mum as the trip coincided with her 50th birthday!

Seen here with her partner Russell Kerr being welcomed to Bruges by Iris Temmerman, left, of Bekina Isobel was totally bowled over by Bruges. “The medieval city centre was build mainly using profits from the wool trade with Britain and is still surround by a canal connecting it to the North Sea,” explained Isobel, herself a well respected Border Leicester sheep breeder.

“Climbing 366 steps to view Bruges from the top of the Belfort bell tower overlooking the market square was well worth the effort. We also greatly enjoyed joining the team from Bekina on a three hour walking tour with lots of stops to sample an amazing array of chocolates, sweets and some of Belgium’s 1000 different beers.

“Knowing just how comfortable and safe Bekina Steplite X wellies are around the farm I really enjoyed meeting the team from this family owned firm based in rural Flanders.”

The famous Bekina Steplite X boot was developed to meet the needs of farmers in Flanders and is now popular across Scotland. These durable polyurethane wellies are warm in winter yet cool in summer so are ideal for farmers spending long hours on their feet at lambing and calving time.
