Carlisle Angus Trade Hits 4000gns Top

Aberdeen-Angus bulls sold to a top of 4000gns at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, on Saturday (13th October) with the top price going to Gretna Green, Dumfriesshire-based Alasdair Houston’s third prize bull Gretnahouse Blackgame L506.

Born April 2011, this one is by Blelack Kanasta Lad G191 and is out of the Netherallan Peter Pershore E052 daughter Blelack Blackbird H949 and carried a milk figure of +14, a TSI of +36 and an SRI of +45. Buyer was G W Green and Sons, Wooler, Northumberland.

Next best was a call of 3000gns securing Staunton-on-Wye, Herefordshire-based Jeremy Price’s March 2011-born bull, another third prize winner, Oakchurch Fabregas L030. This ET-bred bull is by Netherallan Peter Pershore E052 and is out of the Dalrene Cruz 11F daughter Southfield Fortuna and was knocked down to J R Errington, Brampton, Cumbria.

Messrs Errington also paid 2100gns for the day’s reserve champion Netherton Blackford L626 from W and D McLaren, Perthshire. This one is by The Moss Mr Eshton D409 and is out of the Netherton Kiwi Sam A141 daughter Netherton Blackbird J524.

Then at 2000gns was Tree Bridge Phonic L318 from David and Penny Evans, Middlesbrough. Born April 2011, this Chapelton Dark Mahmoud E826 son is out of the Blelack Blacksmith Y291 daughter Jerusalem Pride D088. Buyer here was W and L A R Montgomery, Galashiels, Selkirkshire.

The dispersal of Edward Penty’s Catrionas herd saw a top price of 3600gns for the first one in the ring, Catrionas Eve D129, a December 2004-born ET daughter by Hoff Limited Edition. She is out of the GMAR HI Spade 039 daughter SAV Emblynette 9511 and has a milk figure of +12 and a SRI of +45. Buyer was A Shufflebotham, Hatherton, Cheshire.

Her March-born heifer calf Catrionas Even M336, by Yearlsey Primetime F058 sold for 1400gns to Hamish Sclater, Turriff, Aberdeenshire, for his Deveron herd.

The best of the served heifers sold at 3200gns for the September 2010-born Catrionas Ebony K300, a daughter of the 3600gns Eve D129 by Yearsley Mr Ambassador E049. Again Mr Shufflebotham was the purchaser.

Averages: 5 bulls £2667.00; Catrionas herd (8 lots)£3,471.56; Ribble herd (27 lots) £1,685.83 (Harrison and Hetherington).
