Massey Lives Up to Potential in August Proofs

Holstein bull Massey has proved himself on both sides of the Atlantic in the August bull proof runs. He has topped the USA’s TPI bull list with an impressive score of 2324 while doubling his number of proven daughters.

His TPI score is an 80 point increase on the April score, with his milk score showing a 157 point or 14% improvement on the April score at 1272. He now has 732 proven daughters, up from 325 in the last run.

In the UK, the Mascol X Bret X Manfred Holstein bull’s figures have increased across the board showing improvements in production and body traits. His £PLI is now 204. Meanwhile, his Type Merit increased by 0.39 points to 2.92, feet and legs improve from +1.74 to +2.08 and his mammary score rose from +2.35 to +2.67.

His milk score also improved to +579kgs with fat and protein at +41.8kgs combined. An excellent cell count score of -26% and a daughter fertility score of +2.7 completed an impressive all-round performance.

“We started selling Massey genetics in 2009 purely based on his genomic potential,” says Nick Kirby, managing director of

“Our faith in him has been more than justified by these very impressive results and they demonstrate the potential that genomic technology offers breeders and farmers. He provides British dairy farmers with the perfect mix of production, health and longevity they are looking for as they seek to make a profit in a challenging business environment.”

Massey’s heritage is as impressive as his August results. His father is Mascol who was highest PLI bull in the UK and has more than 30,000 international proof daughters with more than 2,500 of them in the UK.

Meanwhile, his mother also stands out. A member of the GENESIS Cooperative herd in the USA, Coyne Farms Yelena also gave birth to top bulls Ecoyne ISY and Yano-ET and is the sister of Don Juan ET. Massey himself is housed within CRI’s GENESIS facilities.

“CRI through its GENESIS/Co-op program is the world’s leading developer of genomic technology and genomic bulls,” says Mr Kirby.

“Massey’s success, and that of a growing number of genomic bulls, confirms that the system means breeders, such as those at CRI, are identifying the best bulls with the most potential more quickly, allowing farmers to benefit from them as soon as possible.” had more genomic bulls in the August proof runs than any other company with its genomic bulls achieving the highest milk production and Lifespan scores of any bull on the list.

Mr Kirby adds that the success of Massey in bull proof runs across the world means that his semen will be in demand.

“I would urge any dairy farmer looking to benefit from Massey’s impressive genetics to order his semen as quickly as possible to avoid disappointment.”
