Inaugural Prime Beltex Hoggets Show at Stirling

Caledonian Marts (Stirling) Ltd held their first show and sale of Prime Beltex Hoggets in conjunction with Beltex Scotland on Tuesday 28th February 2012.

The Beltex Scotland club also kindly sponsored the competition along with Natural Stockcare, Agri Lloyd, LS Smellin & Sons, TRP Scotland and Caledonian Marts. There was a great entry of 190 forward from the Central & Perthshire areas with the overall average 232.14p per kilo.

The judge for the day was John Gibson, Procurement Manager from Vivers Scotlamb Ltd, Annan and the following were his awards:

Caledonian Marts (Stirling) Ltd had forward 2233 prime sheep and 1100 cast ewes and tups. Outwith the Show: 2233 Prime Hoggets averaged 197.20p per kilo -1.24p on the week selling to a top of 249p per kilo or £110.50 for Beltex from R & S Downie, Newton of Crathie.1679 (SQQ) Prime Hoggets averaged 202.63p per kilo (+1.2p on the week).
