DN Bennett & Son, Powys had a very successful day. They were awarded the championship by pre sale judge Christine Lewis. A 2009 ewe which had been shown successfully winning the Female Championship at the North Wales Club Show 2011 and winning second as a gimmer at the Royal Welsh Show in 2010.
DN Bennett & Son's ewe sold for 2000gns
- a new record price for a Lleyn Female.
She was scanned in lamb for twins to the 7000gns ram Bankhall Powerhouse. Her sire has bred rams to 5000gns and has daughters that have bred rams to 18,000gns. At lot 5 into the ring she sold for a new breed record for a ewe of 2000gns to Jock Allen, Lanarkshire. The Bennett Family sold a further two shearlings for 650gns and 950gns before selling the first prize ewe lamb for another breed record of 800gns to RE Jones.
The second prize shearling ewe from JA & R Geldard & Sons, Kendal was the next to top when selling a shearling scanned with twins to a Sackville Hamilton ram. This lot was purchased by AG Hughes for 1700gns.
Jim Goldie, Dumfries was awarded the reserve championship for his first prize shearling ewe. Scanned for twins she is in lamb to Lluest Masterpiece. Bought by Brian Walling of Farmstock Genetics, Selkirk for 1200gns. JK Goldie sold another shearling for 850gns. Whilst son Hamish Goldie sold a shearling for 900gns.
The Fort Family from Keighley were out in full team. With the first consignment into the ring G & A Fort sold two shearlings for 500gns a piece. Later T & B Fort sold for 650gns, 600gns & 500gns, all sold to H Glaister.
Derek Steen, Lockerbie had some highlights with two lots selling for 800gns to M Mullen and Brian Walling of Farmstock Genetics. He sold a daughter of Lluest Commander for 700gns and a daughter of Balliney Actionman for 500gns to Graham Shepherd, Preston.
Farmstock Genetics sold a 2009 ewe which had won several shows throughout 2010. Scanned a triplet in lamb to Incheoch Mojo she realised 800gns to JA Robertson & Partners.
John Morton, Penrith had a run of older ewes. His 2009 born sold for 700gns to M Mullan. From the same home he sold two 2007 ewes for 500gn and 520gns.
