Charolais met a consistent demand selling to 5,200gns at the Northern Ireland Charolais Club’s official February show and sale at Dungannon on Friday 3 February.
Top lot was Derrygiff Fire, junior male champion at 5,200gns.
The sale was led by the pre-sale junior male champion, Derrygiff Fire TI +42, SRI +36 from K S Brady, Maguiresbridge, County Fermanagh. A son of Lyonsdemesne Tzar and out of Givendale Vesper, this 15 month old was knocked down sold to J Stinson, Aughnacloy, County Tyrone for 5,200gns.
Next came 20 month old Doo Fearless, the reserve senior male champion by Doonally New and out of a home-bred dam at 4,800gns. From J A Erskine, Killylea, County Armagh he was taken home by P Rafferty, Armagh, County Armagh. The same breeder also saw 17 month old Dartonhall Fearless TI +28, SRI + 23 sell for 2,800gns. By the 55,000gns Thrunton Voldemort and out of a home-bred dam, he was knocked down to T Smyth, Dromore, County Tyrone. Mr Erskine also led the female section with the two year old Dartonhall Erin TI +24, SRI +24. Erin, the reserve female champion by Escott Dollar and out of a home-bred dam, was secured for a call of 2,400gns from J Humes, Irvinestown, County Fermanagh. He also took home 1,900gns for two year old Dartonhall Envy by Knockane Collen and out of Shankhill Maria after a bid from G Egerton, Newtownbutler, County Fermanagh.
Fymore Fantastic, the supreme champion, sold for 4,600gns.A bid of 4,600gns secured the 18 month old overall supreme champion, Fymore Fantastic TI +39, SRI +31. A son of the 18.000gns Fury Action and out of a home-bred dam, he was bred by S McCaughey, Augher, County Tyrone, and purchased by W J Connor, Newry, County Down.
Drumfin Farouk TI +56, SRI +53, an 18 month old from B and J Buchanan, Hillsborough, County Down sold for 4,300gns. By Blakestown Dermot and out of a home-bred dam, Farouk was purchased by K Molyneaux, Crumlin, County Antrim.
A call of 3,600gns was made for Kiltybane Finn TI +31, SRI +24. This 17 month old by Cretlevane Albertz and out of a home-bred dam was bred by S and A Bellew, Newry, County Down and taken home by L Gray, Newtownbutler, County Fermanagh.
The reserve junior male champion came next at 3,500gns. Altnaveigh Foinavon TI +36, SRI +27, a 17 month old by Roundhill Ohoh and out of a home-bred dam, was purchased by R Keys, Clogher, County Tyrone from his breeders S and R Thompson, Newry, County Down. The same breeders secured 3,200gns for their first prize winner Altnaveigh Fameandglory TI +24, SRI +27. This 16 month old by Oldstone Egbert and out of Tullygarney Virginia was secured by R McNeil, Ballmena, County Antrim.
Mullaghbane Fantastic TI +28, SRI +22 went for 3,400gns. By the home bred Mullaghbane Topline and out of a home-bred dam, this 16 month old from W E F Elliott, Florencecourt, County Fermanagh was knocked down sold to J Bloomer, Dungannon, County Tyrone. The same breeder found a bid of 2,900gns for Mullaghbane Fearless TI +23, SRI +19 by Prime Roberto and out of a home-bred dam. At 16 months old, he was knocked down sold to M McGill, Poyntzpass, County Armagh.
Burnside Flintstone TI +8, SRI +11 came next at 3,000gns. An 18 month old by the 16,000gns Balmyle Vagabond and out of a home-bred dam, he was bred by B McAllister and Son, Ballymena, County Antrim and was bought by J McClernon, Tommebridge, County Antrim.
Back in the female section, S and D Bothwell, Ballinamallard, County Fermanagh, found success with his three year olds. First and going for 1,900gns to J McGrath, Omagh, County Tyrone, was Killadeas Darling TI +35, SRI +29, by Dunlon Ulick and out of a home-bred dam. Darling was sold in calf to the 16,000gns Stirling champion Blackford Dynamite. Two more went for calls of 1,600gns. Killadeas Devine TI +28, SRI +23, also in calf to Dynamite and another Ulick daughter, was knocked down sold to E Johnstone, Cookstown, County Tyrone. Callagheen Daisy TI +34, SRI +33 by Pirate and out of Doon Bonnie, was secured by I McCrea, Castlederg, County Tyrone and is also in calf to Dynamite.
A call of 1,800gns was made for Moorlough Elsa TI +36, SRI +29, bred by J McBride, Strabane, County Tyrone. By Roughan Coleman and out of a home-bred cow, this two year old was bought by R Moore, Newry, County Down.
