Longtown Primestock Sale
2011-12-29

The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart PLC had forward 41 prime cattle, 1 young bull, 6 over thirty month cattle, 5,953 prime lambs and 6,688 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 29th December, 2011.



Longtown cattle ring

The final sale of 2011 of prime cattle saw the whole sale average 201.1p per kilo with new buyers and vendors in attendance. The sale was topped at 216.5p for a Limousin heifer from J. & N. Blaylock & Son, Hallburn, and Limousin bullocks peaked at 213.5p from A. & W.J. Taylor & Son, Dashwell Green, purchased by W. Kirkup & Sons, Butchers, Longtown. Charolais bullocks to 212.5p from J.W. Vevers, High Stenries and heifers to 211.5p J. & D. Longlands Ltd., Tonehall.

A larger show of 5,953 prime lambs sold to a full ring of buyers with trade levelling at 201p per kilo for all weight ranges.
