Longtown Primestock Sale
2011-11-17

The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart PLC had forward 50 prime cattle, 2 young bulls, 38 over thirty month cattle, 6,637 prime lambs and 5,481 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 17th November, 2011.

Another good show of prime cattle saw averages similar on the week. Top price of 211.5p for a Charolais heifer from J. & N. Blaylock & Son, Hallburn, Limousins to 210.5p from W. & W. Faulder, Houghton House. Limousin bullocks to 208.5p and 207.5p shown by W. & W.J. Taylor, Dashwellgreen.

Longtown Mart

Prime lambs were an excellent show for quality and more could have been sold to advantage. The sale averaged 196.8p per kilo, but 198.8p in the SQQ without the heavyweights. Export weight lambs, so long as not too fat are in constant demand and needed on a regular basis.
