Lincoln Reds to 4500gns at Newark
2011-10-25

LINCOLN RED CATTLE SOCIETYThe ongoing demand for quality cattle enjoyed by the Lincoln Red breed was much in evidence at Saturday’s breed society sale at Newark, with bulls selling to a top of 4500gns and females much sought after and reaching a peak of 3000gns.

Leading the day’s prices was July 2009-born bull Grovehouse Martin from P Stennett, Doncaster. Sired by St Fort Essex, Martin is out of Fenton Elegant E84, an Anwick Utopia daughter which stood reserve breed champion at the Royal in 2004. He sold to R G Parkinson and Sons, Louth.

Next best in the bulls was a 2800gns call for Beverley Nimrod from R I Clough and Son. This one is a son of St Fort Dickens and out of Beverley Annie E30, a Beandon Uranus daughter. Nimrod, reserve male champion and junior native interbreed champion from this year’s Lincolnshire Show sold to N T Morgan, Dover.

And selling at 2500gns was the next lot in the ring Market Stainton Nelson from Robert and John Needham. Sired by Hemingby Bevan, he is out of Market Stainton Holly 6, a Fenton Challenger daughter and was knocked down to N and G Bark, Lanark.

Top call of the day in the females was a 3000gns bid for long-distance entry Auchmahoy Grace M45 from S Buchan, Ellon, Aberdeenshire. This St Fort Jonathan daughter is out of Donnington Grace H5, a Donnington Email daughter and sold in-calf to homebred sire Auchmachoy Langworth. She found a new home with Peter Bush, Norwich.

A trio then sold at 2000gns, with the first being Harrington Libby L189, an April 2008-born cow from the Timbury family. Sired by Manor Frank she sold to G H Robinson, Houghton on the Hill. Second at this money was maiden heifer Walmer Lass N33 from Hedley Needler. This April 2010-born heifer is by Beverley Jaunty and out of Walmer Lass H66. She found a new home with the buyer of the top priced female, Peter Bush, Norwich.

The final transaction at this price came when the Farmer family, Nuneaton, sold their August 2008-born cow Drayton Lisa L1. She is a daughter of Harrington Charlie and is out of Farnsfield Queen 102. Selling with her Limousin cross heifer calf at foot and back in calf again to a Limousin she headed home with Tom Green, Grantham.

Averages; bulls £2856, cows £1,653.75, in-calf heifers £1775.74, maiden heifers £1084.57 (Newark Livestock Sales).
