Prince of Powys is Lleyn King at Carlisle

Records were broken and then smashed again in the same day at Carlisle at the fifteenth Annual Show & Sale of Registered Lleyn Sheep on Thursday 22nd September.

Champion Ram Prince of Powys sold for 18,000gns

New breed records were recorded in both the female and ram sections.

In the shearling ewes the third vendor into the ring, JA & R Geldard & Sons, Gilpin Bridge created a new breed record of £460/head when selling his champion pen to Linda Barnard, Malton. This was later smashed when Charles Sackville-Hamilton of Malton sold his pen for £500/head also to Linda Barnard.

In the rams DN Bennett & Son, Powys sold a homebred ram named Prince of Powys, sired by a Hamish Goldie ram for 18,000gns to Michael Cursiter on behalf of Laga Farms, Orkney. JA & R Geldard & Sons, Gilpin Bridge followed with a ram sired by a Sackville-Hamilton ram, selling for 7000gns to Bank Farm Partners, Worcester. At eighth lot from the end John Morton sold Power House another Hamish Goldie sired ram for 7000gns to DN Bennett & Son.

Emrys and Dylan Jones had a good sale, selling a Derek Steen sired ram for 3400gns to Jock Allan of Biggar and a Wynne Davies sired ram for 3000gns to H & M Dugdale & Son, Settle also another two rams for 2800gns and 2000gns.

Ewe lambs saw a positive trade with few pens below the £100 mark. The top price was £230/head realised by and DN Bennett & Son to M Kinnes, Kilham. AW Davies, Pwllheli had a pen at £150 to Sean Magee, Newry, County Down, while Walling & Nixon of Melrose sold a pen for £145 to R & S Turnbull, Inverbervie.
