Longtown Primestock Sale
2011-09-22

The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 67 prime cattle, 2 young bulls, 58 over thirty month cattle, 6,433 prime lambs and 7,616 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 22nd September, 2011.

An improved show of prime cattle met a buoyant trade throughout and topped at 211.5p for a 680 kg Limousin bullock from N. Forster, The Haining House, also to 210.5p from the same home. Limousin heifers topped at 202.5p from T.N. & F. Cowan & Son, The Ash.

A larger show of OTM cattle saw trade a shade less but still keen bidding was had. Top was 177.5p for a Limousin from CA Grieve & Sons, Snab Farm and Black & White cows to 137.5p WT Bendle & Son, The Nook.

Another large show of lambs upheld recent rates with the sale averaging a very sound 170p/kilo with good fleshed lambs keenly sought after. Top price per kilo was 200p for Texels from M/s Sutherland, Rumsdale House and for Beltex from D & D Aitken, Uppercleugh.
