Longtown Primestock Sale
2011-09-08

The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 75 prime cattle, 6 young bulls, 50 over thirty month cattle, 6,698 prime lambs and 7,416 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 8th September, 2011.

A larger show of prime cattle on offer and a poorer show of quality, with a shortage of good well fleshed inside feed cattle. Topping the market at 211.5p for a Limousin bullocks from Mr I Nelson, Outertown and Limousin heifers peaking at 203.5p from C A Grieve & Sons, Snab Farm.

A larger show of Over Thirty Month Cattle saw trade much the same as last week. Top price was 169.5p three times, twice for Limousin cows from A Ritchie, Stormont and from JF & SJ MacDonald, Ladyhousesteads.

Another very large show of prime lambs were forward for the sale to the usual ring of buyers, averaging a very respectable 170.4p/kilo. The sale was topped at £103.50 for Texels from Haltcliffe and to 205p for Beltex from Newlands.
