Longtown Primestock Sale
2011-08-25

The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 107 prime cattle, 4 young bulls, 31 over thirty month cattle, 7,276 prime lambs and 7,849 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 25th August, 2011.

Once again a large show of 107 prime cattle saw a tremendous trade throughout and vendors going home delighted with their returns. Limousin bullocks topped the sale at 221.5p for an outstanding animal from J. Retson & Son, Gardrum, other Limousin bullocks to 215.5p Toppin Castle, 211.5p, 209.5p, 208.5p Outertown, 208.5p Toppin Castle.

Over Thirty Month Cattle were a better show for quality and sold to a top of 168.5p for a British Blue from Messrs T. Armstrong & Sons, Sceughdyke with Limousins to 159.5p Kilbride Farm.

Longtown Mart

A collosal show of 7,276 prime lambs on Thursday, selling to the usual full ring of buyers and averaging a very respectable 176.1p per kilo for that sheer volume, a good 6-10p ahead of other centres on the same day.

The sale was topped at 207p per kilo for Beltex from Janey and Libby Hall, Blacksmiths Cottage. Top per head of £92.50 for Charollais from Messrs Ryder, Black Hamilton, Blackford, others £82.50 Annanhill, £81.50 Allfornaught; Texel £89.50, £87.50 Kirkton, £83.50 Staffler; Beltex £82.80 Bolton Wood Lane, £81.50 Beck View; Suffolk £78.50 Red House, £77.20 Whins, £76.80 Albierigg; Greyface £78.20 Haining House, £77.20 Highwood, £75.50 Crosshill; Cheviot Mule £76.80 Gospel Hall; Blackface £74.50, £63.50 Cooilingel, £63.20 Milnmark; North Country Cheviot £74.20 Hownam Grange, £70.80 Wham Head; Bleu d’Maine £73.80 Middle Farm; Hill Cheviot £71.20 Dinley, £69.80 Raeburnfoot.
