Longtown Primestock Sale

The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 62 prime cattle, 32 over thirty month cattle, 5,312 prime hoggs and 5,628 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 24th February, 2011.

A good show of 62 prime cattle forward was met by a flying trade once again. Limousin heifers to 194.5p from J. & N. Blaylock & Son, Hallburn and193.5p Dashwell Green purchased by W. Another large show of 5,312 prime hoggs forward sold to the usual ring of buyers and upheld recent high rates to average 189.9p overall with an SQQ of 192.9p. Heavy hoggs were also in demand and short of requirements, more export hoggs could also have been sold. Top price per kilo of 230p for Texels from Messrs MacTaggart, Main Office. A larger show of 5,628 cast ewes and rams were forward to a busy ring of buyers with trade being £4 to £5 sharper on heavy ewes, especially Mules, but horned ewes just similar. More ewes could have been sold to sellers advantage.
