The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 61 prime cattle, 25 over thirty month cattle, 4,051 prime hoggs and 3,763 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 14th January, 2010.

Prime cattle sold to a top of 187.5p for Limousin heifers from Hallburn, 184.5p, 181.5p Englishtown. British Blue bullocks to 179.5p Hallburn, 175.5p Haining House; Charolais £1,297, £1,230 Sceughdyke.

The 25 over thirty month cattle were dearer on the week selling to a top of 136.5p for Shorthorn bullocks from Spoutbank. British Blue cows to 116.5p Swaites; Blonde d’Aquitaine 112.5p Hill House; Limousin 105.5p Bleatarn; Black & White 101.5p High Plains. Limousin cows to £949 per head; Blonde d’Aquitaine £798; British Blue £786; Hereford £716.

The 4,051 prime hoggs were forward to the usual ring of buyers to average 191.9p per kilo overall. The 975 hoggs weighing under 36 kilos levelled out at 196.8p and the 3,076 over 36 kilos averaged 190.8p. Top price per kilo of 254p for Texels from Messrs Woodmass, Harene.
