The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 62 prime cattle, 2 young bulls, 53 OTM, 5,817 prime hogg's and 6,319 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 15th January, 2009.

A good show of quality cattle dearer on the week. Top Price of 197.5p paid by W Kirkup & Son for a Limousin Bullock from JF & SJ MacDonald, Ladyhousesteads, others to 187.5p The Gill, 183.5p Guardrum, 182.5p Haining House. Charolais Bullock from T Armstrong & Sons, Sceughdyke sold to 175.5p. Others to 172.5p High Stenries. Belgian Blue Bullocks from W & W Faulder, Houghton House to 175.5p to M/S Nattress, Butcher. Charolais Heifer to 186.5p from J W Vevers, High Stenries to Scot Beef Ltd. Limousin Heifer from J & N Blaylock & Son, Hallburn to 179.5p & 178.5p. Heavyweight Charolais Bulls from T Armstrong & Sons, Sceughdyke sold to 157.5p.

OTM met sharpest trade for a long time. Blonde Cows to 139.5p (x2) from Patties Hill, Belgian Blue to 126.5p High Crubasdale, Limousin Bulls to 115.5p Low Todholes, Limousin Heifers to 136.5p & 135.5p Black House, 135.5p Parceltown, Galloway Heifer to 121.5p Skitby

Another massive show of Hogg’s forward. A large ring of buyers the usual ensured trade remained buoyant, with 3525 Hogg’s over 36Kg averaging 155p and the 2292 under 36Kg averaging 138p. Overall average was 149.5p with many the best hogg’s still £25-£30 over. Sale was topped at £104.50 for Texel Hogg’s from Messrs Stephenson, West Millhill and to 197p from Nunscleugh.
