Longtown Primestock Sale

The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 84 prime cattle, 11 young beef bulls, 5,696 hoggs and 5,214 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 25th January, 2007.

Skipton Christmas prime lambs champions

All classes of clean cattle were dearer on the week. Top price of 136.5p was paid by Messrs Nattrass, Butcher, Carlisle for a Belgian Blue bullock from J Crichton, Loughrigg. Limousins 130.5p The Gill and Stormont to Messrs Nattrass and Woodhead Bros., 128.5p, 125.5p Hallburn, Blondes 130.5p The Gill to G Moor, Charolais 127.5p Hallburn, 126.5p Lawston.

Charolais heifers from Hallburn to 134.5p to Woodhead Bros., 128.5p Sceughdyke, 126.5p Lawston. Limousin heifers 128.5p, 127.5p Hallburn to Border Meats, Belgian Blues 124.5p Southlambhill to W Kirkup.

Young bulls were also dearer selling to 127.5p for a Limousin from T & M Irving, Becton Hall, 121.5p Netherton, 119.5p Shankfieldhead, 117.5p Southlambhill.

The prime hoggs saw all classes considerably sharper peaking at £62 for Beltex from Copperthorns and 151.8p also for Beltex from Allanshaws. The overall average was 109.p per kilo.

Lightweights met a sharper trade also peaking at 150.5p and £51.20 for Beltex from Messrs Hall, Inglewood Edge. Suffolk x £39.50 Orphir, Hill Cheviot £36.50, £35.20 Pingle. Texel £41.80 Redbanks, Charollais £39.80 Whitehead Hill, North Country Cheviot £44.80, £39 Millquoy, Halfbreds £37 Allanshaws, Greyfaces £34 Cambeck Hill, Blackfaces £38.80, £37 North Deanhead.

The cast ewes and rams saw all classes firmer on the week. Top was £70.50 for Texel ewes from Riddell Farm, others to £66.50 Winterhope & Beechburn. Beltex £66.50 Waterloo, £63.50 Lighthouse, Suffolks £62.50 Stackbraes, £60.50 East Cliff & Riddell Farm, Suffolk x £58.50 Allanshaws & Ballyclare, £57.50 Briarlea, Halfbreds £46.50 Allanshaws, Charollais £55.50 Ballyclare, North Cheviots £50 Todholes, Leicesters £60.50 Ashfield, Cheviot Mules £48.50 Duchrae, Greyfaces £44.50 Milnholm.
