Shire Milton son tops Dungannon Limousin Sale
19/04/05

Carmorn Uniper - £4095
Carmorn Uniper

The British Limousin Society's Show & Sale of bulls organised by the Northern Ireland Club at Dungannon Farmers' Mart on Friday 15th April 2005 saw a buoyant trade with bidding brisk and a near total clearance of lots forward: six only remaining unsold. This reflected the continuing demand from buyers seeking quality sires for the production of the type of store cattle that meet market needs or for heifers as herd replacements.

There were lots on offer with a wide variety of breeding lines and attractive performance figures together with many qualifying for the Beef Quality Initiative at Elite and Superior standard giving buyers plenty of information on which to make their selections. Attending the sale was Mr Iain Kerr, Chief Executive of the British Limousin Cattle Society together with Mr Richard Saunders, Society Development Manager and they had opportunities to meet and talk with many of the Club and Society members and see the stock on show. Mr Kerr commented: This strong sale comes just a week after figures released from the Livestock & Meat Commision confirmed Limousin as the most popular breed in Northern Ireland with 35% of total animals or 130,550 Limousin-sired registrations in 2004.”

Top Sale Prices

The top bull price - £4410 went to Michael and Ann McPolin of Cabra, Newry for Newhillfarm Volvo by Shire Milton out of Newhillfarm Robin, an Elite bull, which had stood fifth in his class. The second top price of £4095 went to Mr C McAuley for Carmorn Uniper, a December 2003 bull and a class winner, by Cloughhead Lord out of Carmorn Page. Demand was firm and, in all, 12 bulls sold at figures in excess of £3000, and another five in excess of £2000 with an overall bull average of £2152 for the lots sold.

The Judging

The Judge for the day was Mr John Allen from Castlederg who is well known as a senior judge, not only in N I but further afield, and he chose as his Champion a November 2003 born bull, Scotchtown Uproar, by Neutron and out of a Shire Cow, shown by Messrs L & R Allison of Limavady. His Reserve Champion, shown by Mr G N Martin of Dromara, was Ashmara Unionjack, a September 2003 bull, by Bailea Imij and out of Ashmara M2.
